Hermanus is one of my favourite weekend getaway destinations in Cape Town. I have done many short trips there and this time around I got to experience the Birkenhead House, a boutique hotel right by the coast.

Hermanus charms with its coastal town vibe. When you visit it’s all about long walks by the ocean, whale watching (if you come in the right season), cosying up inside when it gets cold at night and leaving the busyness of the city behind.
From the infinity pool at the Birkenhead house you can overlook the coast and watch the surfers do their thing. At night you can sit by the fireplace inside, share stories and play board games. In the morning you are gently woken up by the sound of the waves crashing against the shore.
It is as if The Birkenhead House really takes in everything that Hermanus has to offer and amplifies its beauty through the hotel’s philosophy.
Hermanus feels homely and that’s what the Birkenhead house reflects. The staff is so friendly and the ambience is so cozy that it feels more like you are staying with friends rather than at a hotel.
I really do love Cape Town but the serenity that Hermanus offers is so refreshing, it is definitely worth a trip if you ever find yourself in the mother city!
