Dubai fascinates me every time I go there: a buzzing metropolis built in the middle of the desert. I have been to the city a couple of times already, so I wanted to share my highlights and tips with you in this blog post. All you need to know about where to stay, what to do and the best healthy restaurants in Dubai.
Best travel time for Dubai
Dubai is the busiest from December to March since the temperatures around that time are the most pleasing. I have also been there in July, which was quite an experience since the temperatures reached up to 44 degrees Celsius! In this heat even lying in the sun by the pool was too much, so we actually spent most time indoors in air-conditioned rooms. I would suggest going anytime between October and April to avoid the summer heat. If you go during the busiest months from December to March, you are more likely to face higher hotel prices and longer queues at the main tourist attractions. Thus, if you have the option I would recommend going sometime between the busy season and the offseason to benefit from both: nice temperatures and good deals.
Where to stay in Dubai
Dubai offers a vast choice of hotels to stay at. From luxury palace-like hotels, over to more affordable accommodation options, you will easily find a hotel to suit your needs and budget. When I was in Dubai I collaborated with some of the most beautiful hotels there: the One & Only Royal Mirage, the Park Hyatt or the Raffles hotel (read all about those hotels here), which were absolutely incredible. However, if you are looking for a cheaper option, I recommend heading over to booking.com and searching for something within your desired price range. Many nice hotels in Dubai offer affordable deals on those booking websites.
What to do in Dubai
Exploring the desert outside of Dubai was my personal highlight. I wrote a detailed blog post about it here. I can definitely recommend anyone to go on a desert safari whilst in Dubai, it is absolutely magical!
Going up the highest building in the world is a must when you are in Dubai. With its 828 metres and 160 storeys, it is the world’s tallest building. From the top, you get the best view over Dubai.
Hot air balloon tour
Going on a hot air balloon and watching the sun rise over the desert is simply breathtaking. I will surely remember this moment for the rest of my life. Just like the desert safari I also did this tour with Platinum heritage here.
Whilst looking for a cool “LA vibes: location, I stumbled across La Mer. It looks like a little village: there are plenty of shops and restaurants as well as a beach, where you can swim and enjoy the sun. The palm trees and colourful beach houses create a cool mix of Miami and LA. A very Instagramable spot for sure!
Want to see Dubai from the water? Then the HERO self-drive boat cruise is for you. What’s very cool about this boat tour is that you get to drive the boat yourself and you simply follow a guide. You stop at important locations to take photos and get some interesting insights from your guide. From the water, you get to see Burj Al Arab, The Palm, some royal palaces and the Dubai skyline.
This is a rather pricey adventure here, but so worth it! You take off from the water and then get to see the whole of Dubai from above. A very cool experience!
This garden filled with colourful flower art is absolutely surreal. A great spot for photos!
The Dubai Fountain Water Show
At first, I was a bit sceptical because I thought the fountain show outside the Dubai Mall was very touristy. It definitely is, however together with the music, this is a spectacle that is really worth watching.
Shop at The Dubai Mall
The Dubai Mall is the biggest shopping centre in the world. You will basically find any shop you are looking for in this mall. To be honest, it is very overwhelming, but if you have a good look at the directory and are clear about what shops you want to visit, you will have a good time shopping.
Healthy restaurants in Dubai
The Açai spot
I am obsessed with the açai bowls and the avocado toast from The Acai spot! I actually never went to one of their restaurants (which look really good though), instead, I ordered their food via Uber eats or Deliveroo multiples times when I felt too lazy to leave the hotel room. It tastes so so good- a must try!
One night I was looking for a healthy vegan restaurant and I found Eat Well via Google Maps. This spot is a bit randomly located, but you get a cool view over downtown Dubai. It is above a herbal pharmacy, which I could spend hours going through. All of their food is gluten and sugar-free and they have some vegan options. The service is amazing and the food is so yummy and healthy. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
What I love about this restaurant is its beautiful interior design. To be fair, the portions are very small and it is rather pricey, but you should still go there nonetheless to check out the cute and photogenic setup.
I am definitely planning on returning to Dubai to explore more of what it has to offer. In the meantime, if you have more Dubai tips, please share them with me and everyone else in the comments! 🙂
