Two weeks ago Julia and I decided to go on little holiday and we went on to trade 30 degrees and sunshine in Cape Town for -20 degrees Celsius and snowfall in Verbier, Switzerland. Usually I am not a huge fan of the cold, but when it snows, the sun shines and you can go snowboarding I do become very fond of winter. Over the past years we have mainly gone skiing in Austria, however this year we decided to switch it up and go to Switzerland where got to stay two nights at La Cordée des Alps and another two nights at the Nevai Hotel in Verbier.
We flew from Cape Town to Munich, where we stayed for two nights, before leaving to Verbier early in the morning. The drive was supposed to take us 6.5 hours, but due to heavy snowfall and doing a short stop in Zurich, it did take us a little longer.
La Cordée des Alps
Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the extremely friendly staff, who helped us carry all our luggage through the snow up to our room and safely stored away snowboards in the ski room. Throughout our whole stay we have found the staff at La Cordée to be outstandingly friendly and helpful. They were able to assist us with all our questions regarding the ski resort, Verbier etc. and gave us lots of good insider tips.
When entering the hotel, the mix of modern and traditional rustic design was the first thing that caught my attention. The interior maintained the classical elements of a ski resort, whilst adding modern and clean touches to it.
The room that Julia and I stayed at had a large balcony with a stunning view over the snow covered mountains– such a beautiful sight to wake up to.
La Cordée des Alps- here
Before heading to the slopes, we enjoyed the breakfast at the hotel every morning. They had a big buffet and a selection of dishes the chef could prepare for you. My personal favorite was the juicer, with which I made myself a fresh carrot, apple and ginger juice every morning- yum!
Weather wise we were so lucky: the snow was absolutely perfect during our 5-day stay and the sun was shining! The conditions were ideal to get back to snowboarding. The Cordée offered a shuttle bus, which could bring you to any lift station close by at any time you wished. Once we were done snowboarding we simply gave the hotel a call and they picked us up- such a great service!
One of my highlights after a long day of snowboarding was warming up in the Sauna. The Spa area at La Cordée des Alps definitely doesn’t disappoint. The sauna, the relax area, the pool and the Jacuzzi were beautifully designed and in the evening a small fireplace rounded up the cozy atmosphere.
Julia and I were also very lucky to experience on of their spa treatments. We enjoyed a one hour massage, which was absolutely to sooth sore muscles after snowboarding.
Nevai Hotel Verbier
After 2 nights at the Cordée des Alps, Julia and I moved to their partner hotel in Vebier: the Nevai Hotel. Even though it is also a 4-star hotel it is slightly different to the Cordée des Alps. It is very young and the vibe is a lot more modern.
No wonder that it is also famous for its nightclub: “The Farmclub”, which is a popular party destination in Verbier.
Once again we were lucky to stay in a room with a large balcony, which also offered a stunning view over the snowy landscape.
Nevai Hotel Verbier- here
Similar to the room, the lobby and the rest of the Nevai Hotel was designed in a very modern look, rather uncommon for most ski resorts. I personally loved the design and one of my favorite parts was the the fireplace in the lobby, which created a cozy atmosphere in the evening.
The staff at this hotel was also amazingly friendly. Usually I have found the hotel staff at places in Asia to be a lot friendlier than in Europe, but these hotels were a pleasant surprise and proved me wrong. The receptionist at the Nevai was so sweet and helpful and she always made sure to check how we were doing, if we needed any help etc.
Moreover, just like at the Cordée this hotel also offered a convenient shuttle to the ski lift.
On our last day we also got to see what the spa at the Nevai had to offer. Julia and I chose a Superfood pro-radiance facial treatment, which was absolutely amazing! It was so so relaxing and afterwards my skin felt so glowing and hydrated- it was very much needed after being out in the cold for the last days.
It was great that we got to experience these two very amazing and different hotels. If you ever find yourself in Verbier and you are looking for a place to stay, I can highly recommend them.
Julia and I loved every second of of our stay in Vebier and are so grateful for this unforgettable winter experience. A big thank you to La Cordée des Alps and the Nevai Hotel for having us and thank you so much Lucie for organizing everything!
