Bali has so many beautiful sides to offer, thus travelling around the island to discover its different facettes is a must! Last time we were on Bali we already explored Ubud, Gili Meno and Uluwatu and this time around we got to visit more areas thanks to Lifestyle Retreats, through which we were able to stay at 3 of their properties on the Island: the Samata in Sanur, the Balé in Nusa Dua and the Santai in Umalas.
The Samata Sanur
The first hotel we stayed at with Lifestyle Retreats was The Samata, which is one of their newest hotels. It is located in the east of Bali in Sanur. The atmosphere there is very relaxing, since it is away from the busy touristy spots such as Kuta or Legian. We actually spent most of the time there at one of their three pools overlooking the rice fields, soaking up the sun and taking in the quiet, peaceful surroundings.
However, if you want to get active The Samata also has a lot to offer: they have a gym, a yoga studio and even a tennis court. The fitness opportunities are rounded up by their healthy cuisine with lots of gluten free options and many vegetarian dishes, which they were easily able to “veganize”.
We stayed in their Spa Suite, which was absolutely amazing, since that meant we had massage therapists come in every day and give us an hourly massage- absolute heaven!
My favourite and most memorable part about staying at The Samata however was definitely the Sunrise Walk Tour, which we did one morning. We got up at 6 o’clock and walked through the local village, past a temple and towards the ocean to watch the sunrise. We were actually so lucky that morning, because we got to see the sun emerge on the horizon without any clouds covering it! It was such a precious moment, because watching the sunset is quite a usual thing to do, but seeing the sun rise in the morning felt very extraordinary and special!
After the sunrise we then walked back to The Samata through the rice fields, which again was a really nice way to experience the real Bali.
The Balé Nusa Dua
So with The Balé I honestly don’t know where to start, because this place is just out of this world. If I had to describe it in 3 words I would call it a “modern design dream”. It is the nicest hotel I have stayed at in my life so far- no wonder lots of brands go there for photo shoots, there is really not one unphotogenic spot at this resort.
We got to stay at a private villa, with an extensive outside area and a private pool from which you could directly walk into the bathroom.
In the morning we were able to order breakfast to the villa and enjoy it outside. This was not only a perfect Instagram opportunity 😉 but also such a cozy and amazing way to start the say.
However, should you ever get tired off lying by the pool, the Balé also offers a shuttle to their beach club at Geger beach. When we were there the beach was a bit crowded, so it was nice to have a secluded and more private area. Even though I love Seminyak, I must admit that the beach in Nusa Dua with its white sand and blue, clear water was a lot prettier.
Julia and I also got to experience the Spa at The Balé for a 90 minute relaxation massage. Yes- I did get a lot of massages whilst I was on Bali and now that I am back in Munich I miss them so much! Anyway, the massage there was amazing, since the staff was really nice and very professional. It was clear, that they knew what they were doing.
Another thing that I loved about The Balé was the fact that they had an extra vegan menu, which also included a lot of raw options. It is great so see that so many hotels these days realize the increasing demand for healthy options!
If you ever find yourself in Bali The Balé is a must visit. My words and these pictures can never do this place justice.
The Santai, Umalas
The last resort we stayed at with Lifestyle Retreats was The Santai, which is located between Seminyak and Canguu. The atmosphere there is very familiar and a lot guests come there for their honey moon or a family vacation. Again, Julia and I got spoiled by staying at our own private villa. This time around however, the pool was bigger than ever!
I very much liked the division of rooms in this villa, since there was one sleeping room and another “living room” with a couch, a kitchen and a dinner table. Furthermore, the bathroom in our villa at The Santai was a winner! It was all outdoor and the design was an architectural masterpiece.
Even though it was very tempting to spend all day by the pool and float around on the inflatable dolphin, we also took part in an activity again: the Indonesian cooking class!
The day before we told the staff that we were Vegan and we were a little bit sceptical about whether they would be able to make arrangements for us.
However, the chef Gede who gave us the cooking class was so amazing and nice and changed the whole menu, so that it was all plant-based! We cooked some traditional Indonesian dishes, of which (even though they all tasted amazing!!) the black rice pudding desert was my favourite. It is so interesting how much you can learn about a culture, just by learning how to cook their local food. Moreover, this wasn’t only a bland step by step cooking class- Gede also told us all about the traditional ingredients and even gave us a quiz in the end in which we had to see if we remembered the names of all of the ingredients. To end the class, we got a certificate, which was so cute and rounded up the cooking class very well.
I don’t think we could have chosen a better way to see more of Bali than with lifestyle Retreats: we got to stay at some of the most beautiful hotels on the island and took part in fun activities that we will remember forever. A huge bonus about all of those three places is that they offer free transport in their corresponding areas: Sanur, Nusa Dua and Seminyak.
I would say that that with Lifestyle Retreats we got the best of both worlds: relaxed days by the pool & fun fitness opportunities, modern design & tradition, holiday & action.
To end this post I just want to thank Jessica from Lifestyle Retreats for organizing everything for us! You are truly such a lovely and clever personality and we hope to meet you again on Bali soon.
