Last weekend Alex and I went on a little getaway and spent two nights in Hermanus, which is a coastal town on the Western Cape, approximately a 1.5-hour drive away from Cape Town. Whilst in Hermanus we got to stay at The Marine Hotel, a beautiful seaside hotel overlooking the coast.
The hotel’s location is ideal, since it is right by the ocean walk and within walking distance of the shops and restaurants in Hermanus.
We stayed in a premier suite, which was very spacious and offered a beautiful view over the sea. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves and breathing in the fresh ocean air in the morning- there is nothing more relaxing.
The suite was fully equipped with an all inclusive mini bar and a DVD player with a great DVD selection. The latter was perfect for cozy movie nights in the evening.
All the rooms at the Marine have a unique furnishing and have been decorated very homely.
With our room, breakfast at the hotel was included as well. Breakfast has go to be my favorite meal of the day, so I tend to be rather critical when it comes to the breakfast selection. However, the Marine did not disappoint. They offer a buffet, as well as an à la Carte menu, which both included a lot of healthy options. The buffet was filled with fresh fruit, cereal, juices and other breakfast delicacies. From the menu I ordered oatmeal, which the staff prepared without milk on request. A great way to to start the day!
Apart from breakfast another one of my personal highlights at The Marine was their pool. I absolutely loved the architecture of it and if the temperatures would have been a little warmer, it would have been the perfect place to relax and soak up the sun- I think I definitely need to come back in summer.
During the day Alex and I spent a lot of time strolling along the coastal walk and taking in the beauty of the ocean. Hermanus is actually one of the 12 best whale watching destinations in the world, so during whale season which reaches its peak in September and October, you are very likely to spot some whales whilst doing that walk.
When we were there, we unfortunately didn’t see and whales and Hermanus was very quiet, since there aren’t a lot of tourists around this time of the year.
I personally really enjoyed the tranquility and the time away from the city. Our two nights in Hermanus were the ideal relaxing weekend getaway.
Thanks so much to The Marine for having us- I will definitely be back in summer to rediscover Hermanus.
